There are two reasons why you might drink more water than you should. First of all you might be thirsty, but it’s possible that you’re not actually thirsty. This can happen if you’re using artificial sweeteners or diuretics. You may have lost so much weight, that your body is trying to conserve it by slowing down your thirst. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but if it’s causing you to feel dehydrated, it’s not the best idea.
Second, you might be drinking too much water! The water you do drink will come from all sources, including juice, tea and coffee. It’s important that you drink at least 8 glasses of liquid per day, but it’s equally important that you do not exceed this amount. Some people claim that if they overdrive, their body loses too much water, so they’ll drink a lot more than they need. Other people say they just have a higher tolerance for water than others.
The good news is that you can easily lose a lot of weight on keto without using any water whatsoever. This is due to the fact that ketosis, or the reduction of carbohydrates in your diet, allows your body to burn fat for energy. When you use water in excess, you’re essentially wasting your carbohydrate intake. And of course, when you do this for a prolonged period of time, you’ll actually cause yourself harm.
To help you decide how much water should I drink on keto and what amount of consumption is right for you, take some time to think about your current weight loss goals. If you have more immediate weight loss goals like losing 5 lbs, then a glass of water per day may not be necessary to help you reach those goals.
But if your goal is to lose body fat, then it’s definitely worth drinking several glasses of water each day. As always, if you experience headaches or other symptoms after drinking water, consult a doctor to rule out dehydration.
